Metabolic syndrome doesn’t elicit the same dread as other major killers such as heart disease and cancer.
That may be because it isn’t a distinct illness. Instead, it’s a “constellation” of conditions. They include abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar.
Together, they add up to metabolic syndrome, which doubles your risk of early death.[1]
Metabolic syndrome deserves more attention. That’s because more than 100 million Americans have it. That’s almost one out of three of us. More than 40% of people over 40 have it.[2]
Conventional medicine doesn’t have a good answer for metabolic syndrome. Doctors use prescription drugs to treat its individual components. They often put patients on statins to lower cholesterol… ACE inhibitors to lower blood pressure… Metformin to lower blood sugar.
None of these drugs on their own can cure metabolic syndrome. And they all can have serious side effects.[3]
Stevia Fights Metabolic Syndrome
A new scientific paper shows there’s a simple, natural weapon. Stevia is plant-based, zero-calorie sweetener.[4]
A comprehensive review found that stevia fights all of the major symptoms of metabolic syndrome. The authors concluded that stevia contains hundreds of bioactive phytochemicals with antioxidant and medicinal properties that help prevent and treat metabolic syndrome.
And it does so with zero side effects.[5] [6]
The results are published in the Journal of Medicinal Food.[7]
The study confirms previous research showing stevia controls high blood pressure, lowers blood sugar, and aids weight loss.[8]
5 Signs of Metabolic Syndrome
You have metabolic syndrome if you have three of these:[9]
- A waistline of more than 40 inches in men and 35 inches in women.
- A triglyceride reading of at least 150 mg/dL.
- An HDL “good” cholesterol level of less than 40 mg/dL in men and 50 mg/dL in women.
- Blood pressure of at least 130/85 mmHg.
- Fasting glucose of at least 100 mg/dL.
How to Use Stevia
Stevia is native to the Amambay Mountains, between southern Brazil and northern Paraguay. It is commonly used as sweetener and medicinal plant by the Guaraní Indians. Native populations have consumed ka’a he’ё (translated as “sweet herb”) for centuries.
Stevia has soared in popularity in recent years as people have looked for a natural alternative to chemical sweeteners such as saccharin, aspartame, sucralose, and acesulfame K.
To prevent or treat metabolic syndrome, simply use stevia in place of sugar and other sweeteners. Organic brands are best. They are widely available online and at health food stores.
Metabolic syndrome is an epidemic in America. Don’t let yourself become a victim of this stealth killer.
