Discover the natural fix for insomnia that one top doctor calls “magic.”
Remember sleeping?
For too many of us, it’s a distant memory: a time when you were able to get in bed, close your eyes, and drift off unencumbered by worries about COVID-19…
Or the hours of work that are piled up after a day of supervising remote school…
Or whether that person coughing next to you in the supermarket checkout line had COVID.
Sleep deprivation has become one of the worst side effects of the pandemic.
Research by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine found that 56% of us are struggling with pandemic-related insomnia.i
Sixty-one percent of Americans say they are now more tired than they’ve ever been in their entire lives, according to a recent survey.ii
Dr. Alon Avidan is a neurologist who directs the UCLA Sleep Disorders Center.
“With COVID-19, we recognize that there is now an epidemic of sleep problems,” he said.iii
Those who’ve always had sleep problems now have them worse than ever, Dr. Avidan said. And the pandemic has brought insomnia to people who never had it before.
Kate Haas is one of them.
About a year into the COVID crisis, Kate fell asleep and woke up three hours later. She found she was unable to drift off again.
Then it happened again the next night.
And the next night after that.
“After a few days, I was exhausted,” Kate said. “After a week, I was a wreck. I was snapping at my kids, zoning out at work.”iv
When it got so bad that she no longer even trusted herself to drive, Kate went to her doctor for help. Predictably, she left with a prescription for sleeping pills.
They worked for the first few nights. But after that, she was back to tossing and turning. Kate, a freelance writer based in Portland, Oregon, followed all the usual advice for insomniacs.
“Melatonin, vitamins, soothing podcasts, banishing chocolate and wine and electronics before bedtime… I tried it all,” she said. “I’d been screened for depression and sleep apnea. But nothing helped.”v
In this issue of Independent Healing, we’ll tell you about the natural insomnia treatment that helped Kate finally put an end to her sleep problems. It works far better than sleeping pills and doesn’t have the scary side effects associated with them.
