Editor’s Note: We’re taking on one of the most common—and frustrating—health issues men face as they get older… Getting up to pee at night, or nocturia. Friday, you discovered two common reasons you go so much. Today, we’re going deeper into one you may not know much about…
It has a reputation for being a female problem. But urinary tract infections (UTIs) can affect men, too. In fact, it may be the reason you pee so much at night.
You and your doctor might think it’s your prostate. But if you’re taking prostate pills or supplements, and they aren’t helping, then a UTI could be to blame.
A UTI is an infection caused by bacteria in the urinary system. That includes the kidneys, bladder, and urethra—the tube that drains urine from the bladder.1
Symptoms aren’t necessarily painful. But they are annoying. They include the frequent urge to urinate, hesitation and a slow stream, and nocturia. Like we told you last time, these are part of a bigger group of symptoms.
They’re called LUTS, or Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms.2 And they’re the same as the symptoms of an enlarged prostate… So you can see why a UTI often goes undiagnosed. (Prostate issues and UTIs often go hand-in-hand.)3
You may already know that cranberries are one of the best ways to both treat and prevent UTIs. Their high level of antioxidants help stop bacteria from sticking to the urinary tract walls.
But here’s something you probably don’t know…
Researchers at Texas A&M Health Sciences Center College of Medicine in Houston found that you need a specific kind of cranberry to get this benefit. And you won’t find it in the sugary juice you can pick up at the grocery store.
Dr. Timothy Boone is vice dean at Texas A&M. “Cranberry juice, especially the juice concentrates you find at the grocery store, will not treat a UTI or bladder infection,” he says. “The active ingredient in cranberry is long gone by the time it reaches your bladder.”4
This is why you need a powdered cranberry extract in capsule form.
Our researchers recently found a unique cranberry powder made specifically for men. And it’s like nothing they’ve seen before.
As the manufacturer put it, it is the “first ever 100% all-natural cranberry ingredient clinically shown to help improve lower urinary tract symptoms in men. With fast acting improvements observed within the first month.”
That’s all we can say about it for now…but we’ll have more on this natural breakthrough in the days to come.
And keep an eye out for tomorrow’s issue. That’s where we’ll reveal how to finally get a good night’s sleep without dangerous sleeping pills.
