The FDA recently banned the antibacterial chemical triclosan from soap. The move is long overdue.
For years, it has been known that triclosan promotes the deadly super-germs that are now rampant in many hospitals1 It is also linked to reproductive and thyroid problems, hormone disruption in children, and cancer.2
What’s more, it doesn’t even do what it was supposed to do, which is to get rid of germs. Dozens of studies show that soap with triclosan doesn’t work any better than regular soap in reducing bacteria on the skin.3
The FDA ban comes far too late. This toxic chemical has already polluted our water and our bodies. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control has detected triclosan in 58% of U.S. waterways. And it is found in the urine of 75% of Americans, according to a study by the group Environmental Health Perspectives.4
But here’s the biggest outrage… The FDA continues to allow triclosan in your toothpaste.5
In other words, the agency believes that something too dangerous to put on your hands is perfectly fine to put in your mouth. It makes no sense.
The FDA caved in to pressure from corporate giant Colgate-Palmolive. It makes Colgate Total, America’s best-selling toothpaste brand. It is the only toothpaste sold in the U.S. that contains triclosan.

This unique extract is made from hops—the same plant that gives beer its distinctive flavor.
But believe it or not, ancient brewmasters didn’t add hops to beer for the flavor. No, they sought the powerful alpha acids in hops that prevents beer from spoiling. It’s those same alpha acids in this patented hops extract that give it the power to help guard your prostate. And so much more you’ll need to see to believe…
Dr. Mark Burhenne is a dentist in Northern California with 30 years of experience. He recommends that his patients stay away from Colgate Total.6
Dr. Burhenne says that when triclosan kills the bad bacteria in your mouth, it also kills the good.7 This can lead to bad breath, dry mouth, and compromise your immune system.
Colgate cites more than 80 studies as evidence its toothpaste is safe. But Dr. Burhenne points out that they were company-funded, not independent.
Never Use Toothpaste with These Ingredients
Be safe. Avoid toothpaste brands with harmful chemicals. Besides triclosan, stay away from:8
- Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS): It is linked to cancer and is used to kill insects.
- Fluoride: It is tied to bone and thyroid problems.9
- Diethanolamine (DEA): It is a hormone disrupter and is linked to liver and kidney cancers.
Two natural toothpaste brands received top safety scores from the Environmental Working Group. They are Dr. Brite and Arganat.
The triclosan mess isn’t the only public health scandal you need to know about… There’s a growing crisis that’s about to become the biggest our country has seen since the Great Depression.
